7 Ingredients That Are A Must In Your Mosquito Repellent

After the heavy rainfall, when the sun shines again, people are likely to step out in the warm weather and soak in the sun or revel in outdoor activities like hiking, sunbathing, and barbeques. While that doesn’t really seem like a bad idea, there’s a tiny problem – actually a lot of tiny problems – mosquitoes. They too love warm weathers and are very common after a heavy downpour. And we all know what kind of nuisance they can create. So, take the necessary precautions – apply mosquito repellent cream on the exposed parts of your body before stepping out. Avoid the chemical-rich, DEET-based mosquito repellents. They do protect you from mosquitoes but they aren’t worth it considering what they do to your skin.

What should you do then?

The solution is very simple – use natural, DEET-free mosquito repellent creams that are gentle on your skin and offer effective protection against mosquitoes. How would you find such mosquito repellents? Take a look below at the ingredients which are a must in all ‘Natural’ mosquito repellent creams and why!

  • Lemon Eucalyptus Oil: Lemon eucalyptus essential oil contains 85% Citronella. It can effectively protect against several species of malaria-carrying mosquito as well as the yellow fever mosquito. Additionally, lemon eucalyptus oil also helps in relieving the symptoms of common virus-caused health problems such as common cold, like congestion and coughing.
  • Soybean Oil: According to a study by the University of Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, soybean-based essential oils have similar effects to DEET and can repel mosquitoes for up to 7 hours. You can use Soybean oil in combination with other mosquito repellent ingredients or use Alyuva’s Natural Deet Free Mosquito Repellent for better results.
  • Citronella Essential Oil: Citronella essential oil is a well-known mosquito repellent which can provide complete protection against three types of mosquito and is initially as effective as DEET. Again, even Citronella Essential Oil can be used separately or in combination with other mosquito repelling ingredients for improved results.
  • Lemongrass Essential Oil: Lemongrass Oil is closely related to citronella and repels a greater variety of pests than most natural “one-scented” oil mixtures. It can be mixed with lemon eucalyptus oil for an insect repellent that can protect you for 5 to 6 hours per application.

You can prepare home-made mosquito repellents using the above-shared ingredients. But if you don’t want to go through all that trouble, try using our new Mosquito Repellent.
